Next to the bootable hybrid minimal image there is now a .vdi file that can be downloaded and used directly inside VirtualBox . Here:

There's also a standard E16 3.8.20 vdi image there for comparisons sake:

Essentially there's no real big difference between the 2 except a few modified E16 look&feel settings and the addition of some applications. They both run the awesome Elive Enlightenment optimized system.
Ultimately you can customize your Standard Elive E16 box in the same fashion, or more to your personal liking, using this Howto:
https://forum.elivelinux.org/t/tutorial-on-handling-e16-by-customizing-the-desktop
Both Files can be downloaded using "zsync_curl" which, if you've allready got a running Elive-Beta is installable with "api zsync-curl". |

That command will certainly halve the data transfer of the 7z file but it will take a long time to read the local (previous 7z) file. The command you'll need is, providing the old 7z is in your current directory: |
zsync_curl -i Elive-Minimal-Retro.7z https://triantares.ddns.net/Elive/downloads/Elive-Minimal-Retro2.1.7z.zsync |
Unlike the hybride iso, the vdi image is fully functional inside Virtualbox
The download is a 7z compressed file. Most Linux distributions will have 7z installed where Mac and Win users will have to download the FOSS program. https://www.7-zip.org/download.html
The 7z file grows to 12-13Gb when decompressed. It does take a while so be patient.
start up Virtualbox and choose "new", give it a meaningful name and in the subsequent window opt for "existing virtual hard disk file" and be sure to give it a sensible amount of memory, at least 2Gb.
Once created be sure to go the "Display" section and give the virtual GPU a sensible amount of RAM too.
Now simply startup your virtual machine and it will boot into the Desktop automatically as a user named elive with evilE as password. You might need that password later to configure the Elive to your personal liking.
If you want or need to, you can resize the the Vbox desktop to your own liking by using the internal "settings", "screen settings" menu item and choose the output you want, depending on the amount of memory you allowed for the GPU.
The pager top right is toggled by clicking on the bottom bar or by using the "win" key on the left of your keyboard. Here's a short video on using (a slightly different) minimal-e16:
